Florida State's Performance In 2023 "Put A Stamp" On Four-Star WR Lawayne McCoy's Decision

In this story:
Florida State fielded one of the most explosive offenses in the country during the 2023 season behind star quarterback Jordan Travis and a group of talented skill players. The Seminoles averaged 416.3 yards per game and tied for 12th in the nation with 57 offensive touchdowns.
The wide receiving corps was highlighted by star playmaker Keon Coleman. After transferring to Tallahassee in the spring, Coleman caught 50 passes for 658 yards and an ACC-leading 11 receiving touchdowns. His performance, along with the rest of the unit, has been a validation for recruits who committed to the program before the season.
Four-star athlete Lawayne McCoy made his pledge to the Seminoles back in the spring. While other schools continued to pursue the talented athlete, Florida State's success helped him realize he had made the right decision.
"Watching Florida State all year, it was great for me. They had terrific games," McCoy said to NoleGameday's Dustin Lewis. "They played their heart out this season. Just me being committed before the season, it just really put a stamp on it."
"I love how they use their receivers in 1-on-1 battles. I feel like that's the type of wide receiver I am, I win 1-on-1 battles," McCoy continued.

McCoy returned to campus over the weekend alongside multiple commitments for the final visit before he signs his Letter of Intent. He spent a handful of days in town with his family and the coaching staff.
"It was great, back where it's home for me," McCoy said. "It was just great getting back up here for the last time before signing day."
This visit was important in more ways than one. Not only was it McCoy's official visit to Florida State, it was also the first time that his mom had been able to make the trip to Tallahassee. She enjoyed being around Mike Norvell and the staff.
"She loved coach Norvell. He's a genuine guy, he's always happy," McCoy said. "She loved her relationship with coach Norvell."
The Florida native was hosted by true freshman defensive back Edwin Joseph while also hanging around players such as wide receiver Destyn Hill and wide receiver Hykeem Williams.
Outside of current Seminoles, he made sure to spend plenty of time with fellow members of #Tribe24.
"It felt good being around some other recruits because they're going to be my future teammates," McCoy said. "Just building a bond now so when we get here it's not new."
It's always important for a wide receiver to have a good relationship with his quarterback. That's exactly what McCoy and four-star commitment Luke Kromenhoek have been building for quite some time now. Kromenhoek was on campus for a brief period of time over the weekend.
"My relationship with Luke, it's been building since we've been committed," McCoy said. "Yesterday I got to talk to him for a little bit. He's a nice, genuine guy too and I feel like we're going to do work here at Florida State."
Prior to the conclusion of the trip, McCoy sat down with coach Norvell for one final meeting before his decision becomes official.
"Just telling me that when I get here he's going to push me to my fullest extent because he wants the best for me and my family," McCoy said. "That basically was his message and I'm ready to work."
McCoy is planning to sign with Florida State on Wednesday, December 20. He will enroll in January to get an early start on his college career.
"It feels great to know it's going to be official Wednesday and yeah, ya'll stay tuned," McCoy said.
The 6-foot-0, 170-pound wide receiver is regarded as the No. 142 overall prospect, the No. 8 ATH, and the No. 17 recruit in the state of Florida in the 2024 class according to 247Sports.
