Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari explains how he will use the transfer portal

How will Coach John Calipari use the transfer portal?

The Kentucky basketball program is in a really interesting spot right now as the fans are calling for a new head coach, and we wait to see what next season's roster might look like.

Despite many fans wanting Coach Calipari gone, it sounds like he will be back for next season after hearing him on his radio show. Calipari will meet with Kentucky Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart tomorrow and discuss ways to improve the program.

Coach Calipari was asked on his radio show how he plans to balance the transfer portal and incoming freshmen for next season. Coach Calipari responded, "I like the combination of both. We just got to get the right transfers. We gotta use the summer a little bit differently. More physicality. More time in the weight room."

One of the takeaways from listening to Coach Calipari on his radio show is that he wants this team to be older next season. Calipari understands that college basketball is changing, and you have players as old as 25, some even older, playing in the NCAA Tournament, and that makes it tough on the freshmen.

Coach Calipari and his staff will likely look hard at the transfer portal and bring in some talented veterans once decisions are made about who will leave for the NBA and the transfer portal.
While many are frustrated with Coach Calipari, and rightfully so, he understands the program is not where it needs to be, and he intends to make some changes to bring Kentucky basketball back to where it should be.
