Report: Toledo Transfer Dante Maddox Jr. to Visit Louisville

The former guard for the Rockets was a Second-Team All-MAC selection this past season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Another impact mid-major transfer will reportedly soon be paying a visit to the Louisville men's basketball program.

Former Toledo guard Dante Maddox Jr. is set to visit Louisville this upcoming weekend, according to 247Sports' Jody Demling.

Last week, Maddox named Louisville to his top eight transfer destinations, alongside Creighton, Oklahoma, Xavier, Illinois, Kansas, TCU and Michigan. Maddox told 247Sports that he plans on visiting Illinois, Xavier, Creighton and Michigan after his visit to UofL, then plans to commit later this month.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound point guard was one of the best players in the MAC this past season. Starting all 32 games for the Rockets, Maddox was their leading scorer at 15.6 points per game, while also averaging 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals to earn a Second-Team All-MAC nod. Maddox shot 43.8 percent from the field, 40.2 percent on three-point attempts and 86.2 percent at the free throw line.

The Chicago Heights, Ill. native spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career with Call State Fullerton before joining Toledo ahead of the 2022-23 season. In his first season, with the Rockets, he averaged 11.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 45.1 percent on threes.

Not long after the end of Louisville's disastrous 2023-24 campaign, one which resulted in the firing of second-year head coach Kenny Payne, the Cardinals' roster began to flip. As of Apr. 8, 11 Louisville players have entered the portal, with only walk-on guard Hercy Miller in line to return.

Fortunately, new head coach Pat Kelsey is already starting to work the portal. So far, Kelsey has landed three transfers since officially being named the new head coach on Mar. 28: guard Reyne Smith and center James Scott - both of whom are following Kelsey from Charleston - as well as former James Madison star and 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards Jr.
