In a matter of three weeks, MSU’s 2012 basketball class is complete. Tom Izzo and his staff prioritized a group of young men and got them all. The first was Kenny Kaminski (SF/PF) from Medina, Ohio. The next player to commit was Denzel Valentine (PG/SG) from Lansing. Matt Costello (C) from Bay City Western claimed what most think is the last remaining scholarship for MSU’s class of 2012.

In the words of Coach Lee Corso, "Not so fast."Â Michigan State is still actively seeking and would make room for a guy like Gary Harris if he decided he wanted to stop in East Lansing.

Matt Costello is raw. His game has come a long way this summer and has been garnering a lot of attention on the AAU circuit. At 6’9”, Matt is an athletically built power forward that will need time in the weight room. His interior skill set is solid, but his outside shooting needs to become more consistent. He will grow tremendously the next two seasons polishing his game so that he is ready for life in East Lansing.

The amazing thing that people need to keep in mind is that the three young men who have already committed to MSU for 2012 still haven't stepped a foot in school for their JUNIOR years.

Matt’s family is committed to education. I know that they are sending Matt to MSU to get an education just as much as they are sending him to get the best coaching college basketball can offer. Matt’s sentiments about his Michigan State commitment were short and sweet. “I’m absolutely excited. We knew late last week, but my dad wanted me to wait and pray about it.”

There are a lot of things to like about Matt Costello. First and foremost, Matt comes from a great family. He comes from a family of athletes and people that are true Michiganders. Matt’s family just grew exponentially with his MSU commitment. He will fit in wonderfully with our family the Spartan Nation. Congratulations Matt, can’t wait to see you play this winter.Â
