Four Takeaways from the Mississippi State Win Over Georgia

In this story:
The Mississippi State Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five, and now MSU sits in second place in the SEC standings.
The Bulldog program has had the most momentum since 2019, and MSU is delivering by playing perhaps their best game of SEC play on Thursday. What stood out from the Bulldog's dominant win?
Fast Start
MSU had started slow in their road wins against Texas A&M and Kentucky, but the Bulldogs flipped the script last night. Early on, the offense showcased excellent ball movement and shot-making.
The Bulldog efficiency was noticeable as they shot 11-17 in the first quarter. MSU was led by Erynn Barnum and Jerkaila Jordan, who both scored eight points, and Barnum was a perfect 4-4 from the field.
Sophomore Debreasha Powe also chipped in two assists. Given the Bulldog's star power, MSU's willingness to always make the extra pass and feed the hot hand is impressive.
Underrated
Jerkaila Jordan is no stranger to Bulldog fans as the senior guard has been a playmaker in Starkville her entire three-year career. However, the former Tulane transfer needs to get the national acclaim she deserves.
Jordan is averaging 16 points a game, along with six rebounds, and is the straw that stirs the drink for the Bulldogs. The Louisiana native played great tonight. Not only did she lead all scorers with 19 points, but she also added four blocks and steals as well.
Jordan was all over the court for the Bulldogs, and hopefully, as MSU continues to win, the 5-9 guard will get the national recognition she deserves.
Post Domination
The post-play for the Bulldogs on Thursday was exceptional, as Jessika Carter and Erynn Barnum combined for 36 points. Carter had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, but that is normal for the Georgia native.
Barnum is a former Arkansas transfer, and as a Razorback last season, the forward averaged 15 points a game. However, the Little Rock native has sometimes struggled for the Bulldogs, but the former All-SEC team member has found her groove.
Barnum scored a season-high 22 points last Sunday in the Bulldogs' 74-63 win at Texas A&M. If Barnum can continue to play well, she and Carter will be a formidable front-court for MSU.
Hitting Their Stride
Last night was a good sign for MSU fans as that was perhaps the Bulldog's best performance in SEC play. MSU finished with 27 assists and showcased every player's strengths.
It was never a question of whether the Bulldogs had enough talent; the question was whether the transfers could mesh well with the veterans. There were times when the chemistry could be questioned, but the Bulldogs are hitting their stride at the perfect time.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Sunday as they welcome Florida to Humphrey Coliseum for a 2 p.m. CT tip.
