The first essential: running back.

This competition has been going on for months, and it looks like the Huskers have some real talent in that area. Mekhi Nelsi and Isaiah Mozee are in the thick of it, with Nelson appearing to have the slight edge as of now. The biggest question is whether one of these players can truly give Nebraska the breakout they need to be successful.

Nebraska needs a player in the backfield who can relieve some of the pressure on the rest of the offense. Somebody who still makes a play when things have gone off the rails. Somebody who makes defenses do a double take.

Adam also examines the team’s physical growth that Matt Rhule has been talking about. As Rhule put it, this is the biggest and meanest team the Huskers have had since he’s arrived, and the numbers are pretty crazy. Nebraska supposedly has 52 players who can back squat at least 500 pounds, if not more.

Adam takes a hard look at the offense’s and defense’s sizing when he compares the Husker’s height and weight to other college football teams. Last year, Nebraska was lighter in important spots, especially those up front. This year, the goal is to get bigger, stronger, and more physical without losing speed.

Last year, inexperience seriously hurt Nebraska. This year, that excuse shouldn’t be used as much as it was in the previous season.
