Following the 2025 football season, which ended in an unappetizing manner, the nation's No. 1 tight end prospect in 2027 has scheduled his return. After two missed trips to campus this spring, Hudson now has an official visit set, proving Nebraska is still in the race. Set for June 12-14, the multi-sport athlete will travel to town for the first time this year.

Here's everything you need to know about arguably NU's biggest target in the class.

Visit Date Set

The Huskers have been on Hudson, similar to a bee on honey, since offering him a scholarship back in January of 2025. Now, more than a full year later, their persistence appears to be paying off.

Regarded as the No. 18 overall prospect and the top-ranked tight end within the cycle, Dana Holgorsen and Marcus Satterfield aren't interested in bowing down to other top schools.

Set for June 12-14, Hudson's official visit is no small win. To date, the rising senior has already gathered an impressive list of 36 Division I offers. With NU being the only program to have locked in an official with the rising star, here's who the Huskers will be competing with down the stretch.

Other Schools in Hudson's Recruitment

The team to beat for the Louisiana native is in-state LSU. Despite the Big Red winning the battle in terms of times on campus, the five-star tight end and four-star forward has the Tigers at the top of his list.

With LSU seeming to have a convincing lead to this point, stealing him away from his home state will be far from easy. Even so, if there's a school to do it, it's Nebraska. The Huskers have a few things going for them, namely the potential pairing of four-star QB commit Trae Taylor and Hudson within the offense as early as next fall. The two have built a relationship together during the recruiting process, and Hudson seems adamant about exploring that further.

Other schools of interest include Texas A&M, Miami, Missouri, and USC. All of those programs made Hudson's top 6, which he cut down to on March 11. Even with those programs included, it's in all likelihood a two-team race.

Nebraska's 2027 Class to Date

With seven verbal commitments in hand, Nebraska's class is currently ranked No. 10 nationally. As impressive as it is, they've actually lost momentum in recent months. Once ranked as high as sixth, adding Hudson to the group would help build back towards that mark.

After seeing a duo of committed recruits opt to transfer in-state for their final year of high school ball, the Huskers' class is largely centered around Nebraska prospects. Four of the seven verbal pledges will finish their prep careers playing in the Omaha metro area. Even with a local lean, NU's staff has put themselves in contention for several of the top recruits nationally as well, including Hudson.

As of April 1, the Huskers already have 22 official visits set for recruits in the 2027 class. Of that group, Hudson is the only tight end. Not only have the Big Red made him a priority within the class, but they also appear to be putting all their eggs in one basket to land him.

Why Nebraska is in the Race

The Huskers have uniquely benefited from already having a top-ranked quarterback commit within the class. For Hudson, it's a former 7-on-7 teammate of his. Oddly enough, the duo won the Battle of the Boneyard event together back in June of last year, which just so happened to take place in Memorial Stadium.

Combined, the pair looked as dynamic as any on the field and had already dominated opposing defenses in the very stadium they could eventually play together collegiately. NU's basketball success is also a factor. Regarded as one of the best forwards in the country on the prep hoops scene, the Big Red's Sweet 16 appearance did nothing but strengthen their pitch to the dual-sport athlete.

Though football seems to be his main concern, the Huskers' success in the fourth year under Matt Rhule could very likely be the difference between landing him and not.

Husker's Tight End Outlook Following 2026

Tight end development has taken place under Rhule's staff, which helps. Luke Lindenmeyer, who heads into his final season wearing the scarlet and cream, went from walk-on afterthought to All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and still has a year to go.

Barring an injury, Lindenmeyer and Hudson's careers would not overlap, leaving room to see the field early on in the five-star's career. After that, NU largely has a ton of unknown. Rising junior Carter Nelson stands out but is coming off a less productive sophomore year than as a freshman. Likewise, the Big Red added a three-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, but he, too, is a question mark of his own.

Regardless of five players eligible to return, Hudson would quickly become the highest ceiling athlete within Satterfield's room. Without giving him the starting role as a true freshman, the path to seeing the field early is definitely there.

Tight Ends on Nebraska Roster:

  1. Fr: Luke Sorensen
  2. So: Eric Ingwerson
  3. So: Danny King
  4. Jr: Carter Nelson
  5. Jr: Cayden Echternach
  6. Sr: Luke Lindenmeyer

Others Visiting on June 12

Hudson will be one of nine recruits who have scheduled official visits over the weekend of June 12. Joining him are a duo of top pass-catchers within the class. Taylor and three other current Nebraska commits are set to officially visit the week following, but it would not come as a surprise if the four-star signal-caller is in town to sway his former 7-on-7 teammate into joining the Big Red's cause.

Wide receivers over the same weekend of Hudson include four-star Khalil Taylor of Pine-Richland (PA) and three-star Nebraska commit Kaden Howard of Miami Palmetto (FL). A trio of defensive backs is also expected on campus, headlined by four-star safety Tavares Harrington.

Lastly, Kyler Kuhn, a four-star guard prospect, will be in attendance with a duo of linebackers in Kobe Rhymes and Brandon Lockley Jr. In total, the weekend of June 12th's nine official visitors is currently the most in number of any weekend in June. June 5 (seven official visitors) and June 19 (six official visitors) will also be in focus during the summer months.
