Notre Dame has made it official and announced that Gerad Parker has been elevated to the offensive coordinator position. The new Irish coordinator will continue coaching the tight ends and is now in charge of the entire offense.

"I am excited to announce Gerad as our new offensive coordinator,” said head coach Marcus Freeman. "I know firsthand the person, teacher, recruiter and innovative football mind he is. I look forward to watching our offense flourish under Gerad’s leadership and direction.”

Freeman and Parker worked together for four seasons at Purdue (2013-16), and the Irish assistant was hired on Freeman's first full staff at Notre Dame.

Parker will inherit a talented and veteran offensive football team, so expectations will be that he hits the ground running.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Parker spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at West Virginia (2020-21). In 2021 he coached wide receivers at Penn State. That season Parker worked with first round draft pick Jahan Dotson and second round pick KJ Hamler. He coached wide receivers and was an offensive assistant at Duke (2017-18) in the two seasons prior.

Freeman and Parker worked together for four seasons at Purdue, where Parker coached tight ends (2013-14) and wide receivers (2015-16). During his tenure he coached DeAngelo Yancey, who finished his career ranked eighth in school history in receiving yards (2,344) and ninth in receiving touchdowns (20). Yancey hauled in 49 passes for 951 yards (19.4 YPC) and 10 touchdowns in 2016.

When then Purdue head coach Darrell Hazel was fired in 2016, Parker was named the interim head coach.

He spent the 2011-12 seasons as the wide receivers coach at Marshall. In 2012, the Thundering Herd racked up 4,381 passing yards and 39 touchdowns, with leading receiver Tommy Shuler catching 110 passes for 1,138 yards and six touchdowns. He also coached Aaron Dobson, who was a second round pick of the New England Patriots. His first full-time coaching spot came at Tennessee-Martin, where he was the pass game coordinator and recruiting coordinator from 2008-10.

Parker replaces Tommy Rees, who left to take the same role at Alabama in early February. Parker played wide receiver at the University of Kentucky.
