Notre Dame fifth-year senior defensive end NaNa Osafo-Mensah has announced he will enter the transfer portal after playing for the Irish for four seasons. Notre Dame will also lose Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who completed his eligibility this season.

"I can't thank you enough for guiding me and molding me into the person I am now," Osafo-Mensah said in a statement. "The appreciation and love I have for the coaching staff, support staff and all of my teammates will never fade, as I will always embrace being a part of the Irish Family. I has been an absolute honor to represent this team throughout my time here in the Blue and Gold.

"After earning two degrees from The University of Notre Dame, I will be entering the transfer portal looking to find a new home for my last year of eligibility. I will always have LOVE for the Irish, and I am excited for my next opportunity."

Osafo-Mensah was a key leader for Notre Dame this season despite not being a starter. He was a key part of the rotation at big end and made a lot of plays coming off the bench. He finished the 2023 season with 20 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. The Texas native finished his career off with a bang, registering two tackles for loss and a sack in the 56-23 win over Stanford.

Notre Dame will have to find answers at the big end position moving forward now that both Jean-Baptiste and Osafo-Mensah are leaving. There is young talent on the roster with players like freshman Brenan Vernon, freshman Boubacar Traore, sophomore Tyson Ford and sophomore Aidan Gobaira all being young players that could play that position. Notre Dame could also choose to move one of Josh Burnham or Junior Tuihalamaka to the position to add another more experienced player to the position.
