Notre Dame Football Practice Report - July 28th

In this story:
Notre Dame held its third practice of the 2023 season this morning as the Fighting Irish prepare for the upcoming season. The media was allowed to view the first five periods of the practice session.
Following the availability we got together to record our thoughts on what we saw, and you can watch that here.
This was our first chance to see the Notre Dame placekickers, and we spent time talking about what we saw from South Florida transfer Spencer Schrader and returner Zak Yoakam. We were especially impressed by Schrader's leg strength.
We spent time talking about assistant coach Mike Mickens, and what we saw in the practice that reminds us of why he's one of the best cornerback developers in college football.
There was brief discussion about quarterback Sam Hartman, wide receiver Chris Tyree, running back Devyn Ford and other standouts on the offensive side of the ball. Tyree has been an early offensive standout for the Irish. During the show we also discussed big picture what we saw from the quarterbacks and the high volume of good reps the staff is getting in on that side of the ball.
On defense, we discussed the different drills they implemented, how much Marcus Freeman was around that group and why the focus on fundamental drills could prove beneficial for that side of the ball during the upcoming season.
During the show we spent time talking about what we saw from the Notre Dame safety group. Senior Xavier Watts is an early standout on the Irish defense so far, and we talked about what we saw from him. We also discussed what we say today from Rhode Island transfer Antonio Carter II, as well as freshmen Ben Minich, Adon Shuler and Luke Talich.
