Notre Dame To Hire Gino Guidugli As Its Quarterbacks Coach

Notre Dame has yet to announce its new offensive coordinator, but the staff has found its quarterbacks coach. Irish Breakdown can confirm that Wisconsin pass game coordinator and former Cincinnati quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli will be the quarterbacks coach. Guidugli was recently hired as the pass game coordinator at Wisconsin, but now he'll be headed to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame has not officially announced the hire but this is the direction Notre Dame is going. There is history with Guidugli and Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman.

Freeman and Guidugli worked together at Cincinnati for four seasons (2017-20). The former Bearcat quarterback passed for 11,453 yards during his college career, and he developed Desmond Ridder. A three-star recruit that ranked as the nation's No. 1657 overall player and No. 116 athlete in the 2017 class, Ridder became a four-year starter at Cincinnati, finished second all-time in Cincinnati history in passing yards (behind only Guidugli), and led the Bearcats to the College Football Playoff in 2021.

Ridder became a third-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons and finished his rookie season as the starter.

Guidugli is well thought of as an assistant in coaching circles. He was a finalist for the Western Michigan head coach opening and was a candidate for several offensive coordinator openings this offseason.

By hiring Guidugli, Notre Dame will now have a coach who works specifically with the quarterbacks. Over the last three years the quarterbacks coach was also the offensive coordinator. A key for Guidugli will be first make sure that current players Sam Hartman, Tyler Buchner, Kenny Minchey and Steve Angeli get comfortable with him.

Guidugli has a relationship with 2024 five-star Notre Dame quarterback commit CJ Carr. Cincinnati offered Carr a scholarship, and before he committed to Notre Dame he took an unofficial visit to Cincinnati.
