Notre Dame Post-Game Show: Irish Keep Rolling With Win Over Central Michigan

Notre Dame improved to 4-0 this weekend after earning a 41-17 win over Central Michigan. The win sets up a battle of Top 10 teams next weekend when the Fighting Irish host Ohio State. Before we dive into a breakdown of that matchup we have to break down the Notre Dame win over Central Michigan.

The show is broken into three segments. Part one gives our overall thoughts of the game and then dives into the offense. Part two looks at the defense and special teams. Part three is our mailbag portion of the show.

OVERALL THOUGHTS - OFFENSE REVIEW

There was a lot to like about the Notre Dame offense, which scored over 40 points for the fourth straight game. Notre Dame also racked up 578 yards of offense and went for 8.89 yards per play. The 578 yards were the offense's most since going for 591 against New Mexico early in 2019, and the yards per play average was the best mark since the offense went for 9.4 against Bowling Green in that same season.

During the show we broke down what we saw from the run game, which showed some new wrinkles in the game. We broke down the strong performance of Sam Hartman, but also pointed out some areas where he wasn't as sharp in this contest. Of course, Hartman was able to connect on big plays to Tobias Merriweather, Chris Tyree and other receivers, which shows the big play potential of this group.

We handed out game balls, and it was a no brainer, Audric Estime.

DEFENSE REVIEW

The reviews of the Notre Dame defense weren't as positive. Notre Dame was missing a pair of starters, but CMU was also missing their starting quarterback. It wasn't a sharp performance for the Fighting Irish defense, and the plan put in place by Al Golden was especially problematic, and we explain why.

Notre Dame's secondary played at a high level, especially at cornerback, and we broke down what we saw. Although we didn't like how Jack Kiser was used, we discuss what we liked about his performance, and he got my game ball in the performance.
