Notre Dame offensive tackle Joe Alt has played just two seasons of college football, but that's all he needed to emerge as one of the nation's best blockers. Looking ahead to next spring's NFL Draft, the early projections are that Alt will become the latest Notre Dame offensive lineman to be a high draft pick.

ESPN Draft Analyst Jordan Reid is very high on Alt, and he seems the Irish blocker being a Top 10 pick. Reid has Alt going No. 7 overall to the Green Bay Packers

"The Packers gave quarterback Jordan Love a one-year extension, meaning he could have more than just 2023 to prove he's their starter. Now they need to get more help around him. At 6-foot-7 and 317 pounds, Alt is a well-built tackle with all of the tools to be a high-level starter, though his game is a little raw at the moment. He is a little more technically advanced at this stage, but he reminds me of Brian O'Neill as a prospect. The Packers haven't drafted an offensive lineman in the first round since 2011 (Derek Sherrod), but Alt is the type of prospect who could push Green Bay to break that trend." - Jordan Reid, ESPN

Should Alt be picked that high it would make him the highest drafted Notre Dame offensive lineman since Quenton Nelson went No. 6 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. It would mark the fifth time a Notre Dame offensive lineman has been taken in the first round of the NFL Draft since 2014. Zack Martin began that run, going No. 16 overall to the Dallas Cowboys. Since then Ronnie Stanley went No. 6 overall to the Baltimore Ravens, Nelson was picked by the Colts, and Mike McGlinchey went No. 9 overall to the San Francisco 49ers.

Green Bay picked former Irish running back Dexter Williams in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Prior to that, a Notre Dame player hadn't been picked by the Packers since 2003, when Brennan Curtin was picked in the sixth round.

The last time Green Bay picked a Notre Dame player in round one was 1994 when former All-American Aaron Taylor was taken with the No. 16 overall pick. Taylor started on Green Bay's 1997 Super Bowl winning squad.
