Gino Guidugli Helping To Separate Notre Dame For Quarterback Deuce Knight

Relationships are a big reason why 2025 quarterback Deuce Knight is so high on Notre Dame

The Notre Dame staff has been busy on the recruiting trail over the last couple of weeks, and a target of the program's affection is Lucedale (Miss.) George County quarterback Deuce Knight. The talented signal caller has quickly become a top target at quarterback for the 2025 class.

These last few weeks have been hectic for Knight, who has been hearing from a lot of notable programs. That includes visits from the schools who have been setting themselves apart recently.

"It has been crazy with coaches coming everyday,” Knight said. "I’ve just been staying focused on getting better and taking everything in stride.

"Tennessee, Notre Dame, Washington, Ole Miss, and TCU are probably the ones recruiting me the hardest,” Knight added. "They show me love consistently and have made me a priority.”

It has been Knight’s relationship with quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli that has really set the Irish apart since he visited on April 1st, and even before. It has become much deeper than football.

"Coach Gino came out to practice yesterday,” he explained. "We talk on the phone a couple times every week. Obviously we aren’t allowed to talk on these visits so I just tried to do my best to impress him with my workout.

"Our relationship is great,” continued Knight. "He has been talking to me every week and he just likes to check in with me to see how I’m doing. We just talk about life and being a better person, it doesn’t even have to be about football with conversations with him. He is a really cool guy.”

Despite just finishing up sophomore year, Knight still has the plan to make a college decision soon. It is adamant that it will come over the next few weeks, just making sure that he is comfortable with the decision. It appears that Notre Dame will be in it until the end.

Knight is a talented prospect that ranks as the nation's No. 28 overall player and No. 4 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class according to On3.

The 6-5, 185-pound signal caller is already being courted by some top programs. Some of his notable offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, Texas A&M, TCU, Oregon, Auburn, Washington, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Indiana among others.

During his sophomore campaign, Knight put together a standout performance. He threw for 1,929 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine games. His completion percentage was 62 and only threw four interceptions on the season.

Knight was also a dynamic playmaker on the ground, exploding for 488 yards and 12 touchdowns on 58 carries. That is good for an 8.4 yard per carry average with a long run of 80 on the season.

It should be no surprise based on his family background that Knight is such a talented athlete. His older brother is Ty Fryfogle, who was a star wide receiver for the University of Indiana from 2017-2021. During that time, Fryfogle hauled in 158 passes for 2,231 yards and 14 touchdowns.
