Ohio Defensive End Cal Thrush "Super Excited" For Notre Dame Visit

Notre Dame is set to host their first home game on Saturday when Tennessee State travels to town. The Irish program is set to several recruits, including various Notre Dame commits and a few players that the staff is keeping a close eye on.

One interesting player who will be making his first trip to campus is 2025 Columbus (Ohio) Upper Arlington defensive end Cal Thrush. The Ohio native is pumped to get to know the Irish staff, especially since that relationship is just starting to develop.

"So far I haven’t had much communication other than a couple recruiting guys, however, I’m super excited to continue to grow our relationship and meet the staff,” Thrush told Irish Breakdown. "They seem like they’re doing a pretty good job over there so I’m pretty pumped.

"For this Saturday, I’m super excited to get on campus, as I’ve never been,” he continued. "I’ve heard it is beautiful. I know there’s a lot of history there and I’m super excited to check out the stadium and facilities, and really just get a feel for their game day environment.”

The recruiting process is still pretty new for Thrush going into this visit. He feels very fortunate for the opportunities he has gotten thus far, and intends to use it as an example for the players around him.

"Recruiting has been really fun,” Thrush explained. "It’s cool to see all the hard work is being noticed, and it provides motivation as I want to continue to get better.

"I also love seeing the younger kids in my community recognize me,” Thrush added. "It's awesome knowing I can be a role model for the next generation.”

There are some early schools that are definitely sticking out for the Ohio standouts. It’s fully aware that things are going to heat up even more as his junior season moves along. This is just the beginning.

"Right now Cincinnati and Wisconsin definitely stand out the most and show the most love,” said Thrush. "I’m communicating with the Cincinnati guys almost daily which I think is pretty awesome, and then Wisconsin is one of the schools that sends me a lot of mail which I love. It's something small that just shows they care.

"That being said, I know there’s still a lot of schools I want to go see and connect with the staff,” Thrush continued. "I feel like I still have a lot of time left in my high school career to do so.”

How things trend between Thrush and Notre Dame in the future is a big unknown. Clearly the Irish see some things that they like, so getting him on campus is never a bad thing.

Thrush currently holds three scholarship offers from Cincinnati, Kent State and Ball State. Schools like Notre Dame and Wisconsin have also kept close tabs on Thrush, continuing to evaluate him during his junior season. The 6-4, 230-pound athlete really developed into a standout at defensive end as a sophomore this past year.
