There may not be a more underrated wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class than Davie (Fla.) Western wide receiver Koby Howard. The talented pass catcher was forced to miss his sophomore season after a leg injury in the preseason. That injury has obviously caused some attention to be lost but looks to change in the near future.

"Things have obviously slowed down a bit after my injury,” Howard said of his recruitment. "I expect it to kick back up after my junior season when teams see me. I am going to the Florida cookout on the 29th, which is my important visit that is coming up. That’s really the only visit I have set up right now.”

Notre Dame is one of the programs that have remained in contact even through that rehab. They are currently very high on the list for Howard.

"Recently, I’d say that Tennessee, LSU, Florida State, Notre Dame and Florida have been doing the best job recruiting me,” he said. "They have stayed consistent even through my setback.”

Relationships are a big thing for Howard. Chansi Stuckey and the Notre Dame staff have done a tremendous job to develop those bonds up until this point.

"My relationship has been doing well with Notre Dame,” he explained. "During March, I used to talk to Coach Stuckey almost every week and he got me on the phone with the whole staff. They were just showing me around and stuff on FaceTime. I communicated with them a lot but it has slowed down now because of the dead period with no contact allowed.”

The staff is working hard to get Howard to take the trip back to campus soon. So far in the 2025 class, the program has made a tremendous impact in the state of Florida. Howard could be a part of that equation.

"Notre Dame is standing high on my list right now,” Howard said. "Their message to me is I’m a great wide receiver and have a chance to be the best in the class as long as I keep working.

"I had a minor setback but am expecting a big junior season,” he continued. "I am also transferring from Pensacola Catholic to go down south and play with Western High School. It will be a bit of a new start.”

Howard is considered a four-star recruit according to the On3 Industry ranking. He is currently pegged as the No. 295 overall player and No. 45 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class.

Some impressive schools have already extended offers to Howard. Some of the premier ones include Notre Dame, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Miami, Tennessee, Florida State, Penn State, Texas A&M, Auburn, Arkansas, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech among others.

A preseason injury cost Howard his entire sophomore season. That was especially a bummer after coming off a standout freshman campaign, hauling in 70 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. Howard also was involved on special teams as a punt and kick returner for the team.
