Linebacker Chris Cole Quickly Sets Up Notre Dame Visit Following Offer

Notre Dame has continued to expand the defensive board, circling in on some really talented defensive players in the 2024 recruiting class. On Friday, the staff extended an offer to Salem (Va.) High School defender Chris Cole, who is one of the bigger risers in recent months.

Since the beginning of the New Year, Cole has reeled in 11 more scholarship offers. This most recent one from Notre Dame really meant a lot to the Virginia native. Cole clearly understands the magnitude of what the program can offer.

“I was speechless when I received the offer from defensive coordinator Al Golden,” Cole explained to Irish Breakdown. “I just felt blessed to have the opportunity to play for such an elite and legendary program.

“Notre Dame has everything,” continued Cole. “It gives you a great education, elite coaching and an elite football program.”

Cole has enjoyed the recent rise on the recruiting side. He has plans of checking out several important programs over the next few weeks, including a trip to Notre Dame.

“Recruiting has been great,” he began. “I got a lot of traction last summer as a sophomore. I camped at Notre Dame last summer as well at the safety position and balled out! My recruitment picked up a lot after earning Linebacker MVP at a Game Day Series Camp.

“I’ve visited a few schools this spring with plans to visit Notre Dame on April 21st,” Cole added. “I don’t have a timeline at this moment but I'm working on it. That’s why I’m traveling to see as many programs as possible. I’m looking for the right fit.”

Now, what exactly would make it the “right fit” for Cole? The talented linebacker has a long list of requirements that he needs from a school and football program. He knows what he wants.

“I am looking for great academics, great mentorship, great development, a great network, a plan for my development, staff stability, the college experience and life long connections,” he explained. “There’s a few more but those are the main criteria I have.”

Linebacker recruiting in 2024 has been a bit puzzling at times. Cole brings an impressive physical profile that teams are clamoring towards. Getting him on campus could be a massive deal for Notre Dame.

Cole’s recruiting ranking does not match his offer list currently. As of right now, he is rated as a three-star recruit and the No. 61 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class according to 247Sports.

Despite that oddly low ranking, Cole currently holds an impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs that have extended offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Texas A&M, Auburn, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Duke, Vanderbilt and West Virginia among others.
