Wide Receiver Micah Gilbert Commits To Notre Dame

In this story:
Notre Dame remains red hot on the recruiting trail by picking up Charlotte (N.C.) Christian standout wide receiver Micah Gilbert. Landing Gilbert gives the Irish yet another talented wide receiver and a second player from Charlotte Christian.
Notre Dame offered Gilbert back in February and have been working to get into the mix with him ever since. He recently released a list of Top 7 schools that included Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Duke and Pittsburgh. It was the Irish that won out in the end, despite family pull to both Duke and Pittsburgh.
Gilbert's older brother, Mark Jr., was a standout defensive back for Duke. His uncle Sean Gilbert, and his cousin Darrelle Revis, both played at Pittsburgh before becoming first round NFL Draft picks.
The 6-2, 205-pound wideout is a polished football player that clearly takes his craft seriously. He is strong working through his routes and at the catch point, which allows him to make a lot contested catches. Gilbert has solid speed, but his best athletic attributes are his foot quickness and balance. Those traits combine with his route running prowess and strong hands to make him a highly effective receiver that could fit quite nicely into the boundary position in the Irish offense.
Limited to seven games as a junior, Gilbert hauled in 39 receptions for 486 yards and six touchdowns. He is ranked as a consensus four-star recruit, with 247Sports ranking him as the No. 199 overall player in the country. Gilbert earned a 4.0-star grade and a Top 150 caliber ranking from Irish Breakdown.
Gilbert also had offers from Tennessee, Penn State, Missouri, Wake Forest, Maryland, Louisville, Virginia, West Virginia, Cincinnati and Georgia Tech.
He is a high school teammate of defensive end Bryce Young, who committed to Notre Dame on Saturday. Gilbert is the third player from the Charlotte to commit to Notre Dame, with tight end Jack Larsen being a standout from Charlotte Catholic.
Gilbert is the fifth player to commit to Notre Dame in the last two weeks, and third in four days.
The Charlotte Christian star joins a wide receiver class that also has big time pass catcher Cam Williams and Georgia athlete Isiah Canion. Notre Dame also has offensive commitments from five-star quarterback CJ Carr, running back Aneyas Williams, offensive lineman Peter Jones and offensive lineman Anthonie Knapp.
