Ohio State Buckeyes left-handed pitcher Isaiah Coupet was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the No. 109 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft Monday.

Coupet was the first Buckeye selected in this year's draft, the 115th in program history and the highest draftee since former Ohio State catcher Dillon Dingler was picked in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft.

Coupet had a lingering injuries that limited himself to just 10 starts and 11 games pitched in 2023, but he made the most of his outings.

In 50 2/3 innings last season, the Flossmoor, IL. native pitched to a career-best 3.55 ERA while striking out 72 batters.

The lefty features a devastating curveball that fools batters with its induced break — a pitch that registered 3,126 revolutions per minute which was a Cape Cod Baseball League-best mark for the week of June 19, according to TrackMan.

Coupet fanned nearly one third of the 300 batters he faced in 2022, as his 98 punch-outs were tied for the 14th-most in a single season in program history.

The 20-year-old temporarily pitched with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod summer league, posting a 1.22 ERA in 7 1/3 innings with an exceptional 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Ohio State has now had seven pitchers drafted since 2021 with TJ Brock, Ethan Hammerberg and Nate Karaffa getting taken last year and Seth Lonsway — a left-hander with a similar power curveball to Coupet's — Garrett Burhenn and Jack Neely in 2021.
