After dropping the series-opener against Rider, Oklahoma was out for revenge Saturday afternoon, and needed to taste victory.

The Sooners picked up a much-needed home win against Rider, using two big offensive innings en route to a 7-2 victory.

OU improved to 3-4, while Rider fell to 4-2.

Anthony Mackenzie continued his impressive recent stretch, going 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI. Dakota Harris added two hits and an RBI in three plate appearances, while Easton Carmichael contributed three RBIs and two hits.

Will Carsten got the start for the Sooners and helped keep the Broncs in check early on. Through two innings, there was no action on the scoreboard despite an early bases-loaded situation from Oklahoma.

It was Rider who struck first, bringing a runner home from second on a Scott Shaw line drive up the middle. Carsten found his way out of the inning, though, setting up Oklahoma’s offense for a monster third frame.

In the bottom of the third, the Sooners’ bats came alive. Wallace Clark’s infield ground out brought home a run, followed by Carmichael’s single up the middle, scoring two more Sooners. Oklahoma led 3-1 after the offensive flurry.

Harris’ double to left center in the bottom of the fourth inning allowed Mackenzie to score again, extending Oklahoma’s lead 4-1.finished after 86 total pitches, totaling three hits given up and four strikeouts.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Sooners made the switch to Carson Pierce on the mound. The junior right-hander allowed one run and struck out three batters in four innings, earning the save for the Sooners. Carsten (1-0) and Pierce combined for 132 pitches thrown and six hits allowed.

The Sooners lit up the scoreboard once again in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mackenzie, Harris and Carmichael all recorded RBIs, added three more runs in favor of the Sooners. At the inning’s conclusion, OU held a dominant 7-1 lead.

Both the seventh and the eighth inning ended quietly before the Broncs added a run to the scoreboard in the ninth. The Sooners put Rider away shortly after, though, setting up a Sunday rubber match for the series finale.

Game No. 3 between Rider and Oklahoma is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Norman.
