OU Baseball: Oklahoma Takes Down No. 16 Dallas Baptist

The Sooners scored early and often on Tuesday night, getting another impressive win on their tournament resume.

Keeping the good times rolling.

Off of another series win over the weekend against Kansas, Oklahoma returned to action on Tuesday night for a midweek tilt with No. 16 Dallas Baptist at Horner Ballpark in Dallas.

The Sooners (25-20) entered the evening having won five of their last six games, and they kept the momentum going with an impressive 10-7 win over the Patriots (34-11).

OU DBU

OU got the party started early in this one, with shortstop Dakota Harris giving the Sooners an early lead with a two-run single in the first.

Oklahoma then plated single runs in the following two innings with Jackson Nicklaus scoring on a wild pitch and Kendall Pettis picking up an RBI single to make it 4-0 in favor of OU at the midway point of the third.

After DBU got one run back in the bottom of the inning, the Sooners immediately responded with two more in the fourth on an RBI double by Sebastian Orduno and a run-scoring single off the bat of Rocco Garza-Gongora.

Oklahoma continued their onslaught in the fifth and sixth innings, striking for two more in each frame - highlighted by a two-run blast from Harris in the bottom of the sixth.

To Dallas Baptists' credit, despite now trailing 10-2, the Patriots would continue to battle back and makes thing interesting.

In the eighth, DBU scored four runs on a two solo home runs and a two-run to suddenly slice the Oklahoma lead in half at 10-6.

Right-hander Will Carsten then entered for the Sooners, recording the last two outs of the inning.

Carsten would then finish the game in the ninth, but not without some further drama as the Patriots scratched across another run and got the tying run to the on-deck circle.

But, the man stayed there after Carsten picked up a big strikeout looking to end the game and seal the deal on the 10-7 win.

The victory is Oklahoma’s sixth in their last seven games and will certainly provide another nice resume boost for the team as they try get themselves in position for an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

After a couple days away from game action, the Sooners will get back to Big 12 play on Friday with the first of a big three-game set with No. 11 West Virginia in Morgantown.
