After two seasons under head coach Brent Venables, Oklahoma prepares for a new challenge in 2024.

As the Sooners head into the SEC, Venables and company are still looking to once again secure the Sooners' spot as a perennial playoff contender.

With a brand new slate of opponents coming up, FanDuel SportsBook, a popular web-based betting service, set OU's win total for next year at 7.5.

In 2023, the Sooners went 9-3, dropping tight games to Kansas and Oklahoma State in the regular season before losing to Arizona in the Alamo Bowl. In Venables first year at the helm in Norman, Oklahoma finished the season 6-7.

In 2024, however, OU will face a much tougher schedule than it has the past two seasons. The Sooners will square off against Texas, Alabama, Missouri and Mississippi, who all finished in the top 10 of last year's final AP Poll.

LSU and Tennessee, who are also on Oklahoma's inaugural SEC schedule, each finished in the top 20 of the season's final AP Poll. With such a tough slate in 2024, it is possible OU doesn't top its projected win total of 7.5.

As the Sooners head to their new conference, the team will have a new starting quarterback and four new starting offensive lineman.

With Dillon Gabriel and Cayden Green both transferring, Andrew Raym and Walter Rouse headed to the NFL draft and McKade Mettauer graduating, Oklahoma will have plenty of new faces playing key snaps on offense.

In addition to a much more rigorous schedule and a new a handful of new starters, the Sooners also replaced both coordinators heading into next year. With Seth Littrell taking over as Oklahoma's offensive coordinator and Zac Alley stepping into the defensive coordinator role, there is still plenty of uncertainty around OU as Venables group transitions to the SEC.

Despite some of the aforementioned struggles, Danny Stutsman, Billy Bowman and a host of other defensive standouts return for the Sooners, which should give Alley and Venables and good starting point for their first season together in Norman.

With a veteran defense, a stable of talented wide receivers and a former 5-star quarterback under center, the Sooners will have a solid chance to exceed FanDuel's projected win total if they can knock off a few formidable SEC opponents.
