OU Basketball: Former Oklahoma Forward Announces Transfer Portal Destination

The Sooners' John Hugley was productive in his one season in Norman after beginning his career at Pittsburgh, and now he'll head back east.

Former Oklahoma big man John Hugley has a new address.

Hugley announced Tuesday afternoon that he has committed to play next season at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

The 6-foot-10, 275-pound Hugley played one season at OU, averaging 8.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game last season. That included eight games in double-digit scoring as he shot 54.8 percent from the floor and 39.4 percent from 3-point range.

Hugley, a Cleveland native, transferred to OU after three years at Pittsburgh, including his redshirt season in 2020-21.

Hugley is one of Porter Moser’s four 2023-24 Sooners who has entered the transfer portal this offseason, joining guards Javian McCollum, Otega Oweh and Milos Uzan. Uzan transferred to Houston.

John holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. Born and raised in North Pole, Alaska, John played football and wrote for the school paper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys books, movies and travel, and lives in Broken Arrow, OK, with his wife and two kids.
