Oklahoma Softball Veterans Shine During Second Game of Fall Battle Series

In this story:
NORMAN — The Oklahoma softball team had its second scrimmage of the fall "Battle Series" on Wednesday.
The intersquad scrimmage was a five-inning contest that broke the Sooners into three teams. An inning was completed once all three squads were given a chance to bat.
The second Battle Series game comes just two days after the Sooners met North Central Texas College for a scrimmage.
In the first inning, Kelly Maxwell got the start in the circle for the Gray Team. The Oklahoma State transfer retired Tiare Jennings, Kinzie Hansen and Rylie Boone in order, striking out Boone to send the White Team back to the bench.
Alynah Torres opened up the scoring for the Gray Team later in the first inning with a line-drive double down the left field line that brought in Jayda Coleman, who stole second base after being hit by a pitch from Nicole May.
Despite Avery Hodge reaching first base on a walk later in the Gray Team's first at-bat, the second group of hitters couldn't manage to bring another run across.
Redshirt freshman pitcher SJ Geurin retired the Pink Team's Kasidi Pickering, Alyssa Brito and Riley Ludlam in order to end the first inning with the Gray Team being the only group to muster a score.
The White Team added their first run of the contest in the second inning, when Ludlam fired to third base but hit Boone, who was pinch-running for Hannah Coor, in the back, allowing the speedy base-runner to score.
The Pink Team got on the scoreboard at the end of the second inning with back-to-back doubles from Brito and Ludlam. With the Furman transfer on second base, Geurin struck out Quincee Lilio to end the at-bat.
After a leadoff single from Jennings to start the third inning, Hansen belted one of Maxwell’s pitches over the right field fence to give the White Team its first lead of the night.

Despite another single from Jennings and a walk from Hansen, the White Team was unable to push any more runs across the plate in the third inning.
In the fourth inning, Brito doubled to centerfield before a hard-hit, two-out single through the infield from Lilio scored the senior utility player. The Pink Team stranded Lilio on first base, but the score was enough to put the group ahead of the Gray Team and just one run behind the White Team.
Later in the inning, Jennings and Hansen reached base with consecutive singles before a ground ball back to May resulted in an error that scored both base runners and put Boone on third. May fielded the ball cleanly, but threw it into the outfield while trying to get a runner out at second base.
With sophomore pitcher Kierston Deal on the mound in the fifth inning, Jennings smashed a two-run homer off of the scoreboard at Marita Hynes field that put the White Team at a game-high seven runs.

Wisconsin transfer Paytn Monticelli entered the game at pitcher in the fourth inning, giving up three runs on three hits and one walk while tallying four strikeouts during her time in the circle.
With Monticelli still pitching during the Pink Team's final at-bat, Lilio blasted a two-run homer over the right centerfield fence that was immediately followed by a solo home run shot from true freshman Kasidi Pickering.
At the end of the contest, the White Team — lead by Jennings and Hansen — came out on top with seven runs. The Pink Team scored five runs, while the Gray Team scored one.
Hansen went 3-for-4 with one home run at the plate, also walking twice while Jennings went 3-for-5 with a moonshot of her own. For the Pink Team, Brito went 3-for-5, knocking two doubles deep into the outfield.
