Conflicting Jordon Davison Injury Reports Emerge From Oregon Fall Camp

The Oregon Ducks may already have sustained their first big injury of the 2026 season in just the second week of fall camp.

Running back Jordon Davison may have suffered an injury during week 2 of fall camp, but conflicting reports suggest that the sophomore standout might not be out as long as initially reported.

Ducks Wire reporter Zachary Neel first reported the news on Wednesday, with sources telling him that Davison was expected out for the next 6-8 weeks. That timeline would hold him out for the rest of the preseason and into Big Ten play, with a potential season debut coming against the USC Trojans or the UCLA Bruins.

While On3's Justin Hopkins gave a conflicting report that photos of Davison practicing today will emerge. The recent news suggests that the injury is a developing story, with Neel reporting that more information is showing a shorter recovery timeline is possible, depending on testing.

Davison’s injury status and recovery timeline are still unknown, but running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples is set to speak to the media on Wednesday afternoon. Samples was already scheduled to talk prior to the injury reports. Oregon has not yet confirmed any reports.

How an Absence Impacts the Oregon Ducks’ Offense

Davison’s possible absence would be a notable hit to the Ducks’ depth in the backfield. He recorded 15 touchdowns and rushed for 667 yards on 113 carries as a true freshman. Davison scored in all but four games he played in and scored multiple times in a game on four occasions.

The Oregon backfield missed Davison in the College Football semifinals vs. the Indiana Hoosiers, however. Davison suffered a broken collarbone in the Orange Bowl vs. Texas Tech, which kept him out. The Ducks felt his absence in the game against Indiana, with the running back depth already thin due to players entering the transfer portal.

Even if Davison does miss extended time, the Ducks’ running back room should be in a good spot. Leading the running back room with Davison out would likely be fellow sophomore Dierre Hill Jr.

Hill had an impressive freshman season in his own right, rushing for five touchdowns and 656 yards on 75 carries and receiving another touchdown with 137 receiving yards on 16 catches.

Da’Juan ‘Dink’ Riggs is another returner at the position who’s received praise during fall camp from offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer. Riggs has dealt with injuries in his first couple of seasons in Eugene, but according to Mehringer, he’s taken things to another level in fall camp now that he's healthy.

"Dink is pushing as hard as I've ever seen him push, Mehringer said. “I do think that for some guys, setbacks change the way they view life. I think that probably happens for all of us. Not everything is just going to happen the way it always has. You don't just go from JV football to varsity and then, 'Hey, I'm pretty good, so I know I'm going to play college. It's just a matter of where.’”

Other options in the backfield if Davison is sidelined would be Colorado transfer Simeon Price and true freshmen Tradarian Ball and Brandon Smith.

Even if Davison is held out for only a couple of weeks of fall camp, it could shake up the depth chart to begin the season if he’s not up to full strength. It also limits Davison’s reps with the offense heading into what could be a big season for the sophomore.

If Davison is held out closer to the 6-8 week timeline, he would likely miss all of non-conference play.
