How To Watch: South Carolina vs The Citadel

Mark Kingston and South Carolina's Baseball program continued their fantastic start to the 2023 baseball season this past weekend, when they defeated their archrivals in the Clemson Tigers in two of the series' three games. Now, the Gamecocks must be weary of the possibility of having a letdown performance after winning a series full of such emotion, and later tonight, they'll be facing off against a team in the Citadel Bulldogs that's capable of making such a performance occur.

The Citadel has had an up-and-down start this season, but swept their previous opponent in Long Island, finishing the stretch with a run differential of +23. In terms of Bulldogs' top-heavy batting lineup, they aren't a team that's known for their power at the plate, but they do possess the ability to hit the ball where the fielders aren't located based on the team's 36 extra-base hits. The main player to watch from the Citadel is senior catcher Travis Lott, who to this point in the season is slashing .459/.608/.703 in 37 total at-bats, and hasn't committed an error in the 92 fielding plays he's been directly involved in.

On the mound, the Bulldogs are expected to start right hander Connor Cummiskey, who has given up just one earned run in the ten innings that he's pitched so far this. For the Gamecocks, sophomore right hander Eli Jones will be on the rubber, who will look to carryover his solid outing he had against the North Carolina A&T Aggies this past week over into his first start of the season later this evening.
