BREAKING: Gamecock Target Zahir Mathis Announces His Decision

South Carolina football target Zahir Mathis announced his commitment this afternoon. Did he pick the Gamecocks?

Everyone who knows the game of football well knows that the old adage 'you can never have too many linemen' doesn't ring hollow. Being in the SEC, the South Carolina Gamecocks fully understand that if they want to be even competitive against the top half of the conference year in and year out, they have to land some top-notch talent in the trenches.

Unfortunately for Shane Beamer and his staff, it appears for now that they've missed on one 2025 target who made a visit to Columbia this past Summer. as four-star edge rusher Zahir Mathis committed to Ohio State on Wednesday afternoon. The Gamecocks were a finalist for Mathis along with Penn State, Tennessee and Florida State.

With Zahir committing to the Buckeyes, South Carolina will now look to keep themselves within striking distance for several other blue-chip prospects in the 2025 class, hoping to land some guys that can help out recent five-star signee Dylan Stewart, who has a chance to be an absolute game-wrecker at the next level.
