Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football staff had a phenomenal day on the recruiting trail on Wednesday, as they landed three commitments in a matter of hours, including one from offensive tackle Mike Williams of the Charles Herbert Flowers school in Springdale, Maryland. Williams is the fourth and more than likely, the final offensive lineman commit for the Gamecocks' 2024 recruiting class.

Williams is someone that South Carolina's staff has had their eye on since the beginning of year when Mike first visited Columbia for a Junior day weekend back on January 21st, a trip where it seems Lonnie Teasley and the rest of the offensive coaching staff conveyed their interest in the rising senior. When watching Mike Williams junior season film from last fall, it's pretty easy to tell why the Gamecocks pursued him.

Williams skillset from a physical, athleticism and technique standpoint strongly resembles the kind of linemen coach Teasley and South Carolina have targeted in this cycle. Mike already carries a towering frame, being listed at 6'5, 310 lbs., but what could make Williams a solid Power Five level starter in college is what he's able to do with his frame.

Williams moves quite well for his size, especially when it comes to his initial release off the line of scrimmage when running downhill, but he also does a good job with his leverage, something that can be quite difficult for prospects with his size at his age. These aforementioned traits combined with Williams high motor gives him the potential to become a road grader in the run game at the next level.

I would imagine that Mike will become an interior lineman once he arrives in Columbia, as while he plays right tackle for the Jaguars, he doesn't display the same kind of downhill speed when he's going back into pass protection. Williams will be taking his official visit to Columbia on the weekend of June 23rd-25th.
