How SEC Expansion Could Boost South Carolina's Recruiting Efforts

With all they've accomplished in their 24 months in Columbia, Shane Beamer and South Carolina's Football program have already begun changing the Gamecocks' perception of the recruiting trail. They have taken a 2-win program to consecutive bowl games, defeated two straight CFP hopefuls, and signed an excellent recruiting class. Suddenly, South Carolina is opening doors that, at the minimum, have been shut for several years.
In the next phase of the Gamecocks' rise near the mountaintop of college football, Shane Beamer and his assistant coaches could find themselves indirectly benefitting from the SEC's addition of two schools in Texas and Oklahoma, who are set to join the conference in 2024. While the initial reaction from Gamecock fans might be disappointing because of the potential belief that those recruiting territories will no longer be up for grabs for teams like South Carolina, that couldn't be farther from the truth.
While Texas and Oklahoma will immediately reap the benefits from touting membership in the most prestigious conference in all of college football, other teams like South Carolina will benefit from increased television exposure of games in the midwest. These chances to showcase the bells and whistles of the program's culture, football strategies, stadium aesthetics, and home-field advantage could catch the eye of players who are open to leaving the midwest but still want to play in the sport's best conference.
Current Gamecock football players in Landon Samson, Peyton Williams, and Reid Mikeska reside in the Lone Star state, so the staff would also have vital player-recruiters on their team. Beamer, offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains, and wide receivers coach Justin Stepp also have ties to Texas or Oklahoma. The Gamecocks could be primed to pull off more surprises on the trail for years, especially if they continue to display continuous on-field progression.
