With the NFL coaching carousel in full swing, a name that has been in the mix that has somewhat come out of nowhere is former Stanford coach David Shaw.

He recently interviewed for the Los Angeles Chargers opening, and according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter is scheduled to interview for another this weekend. The NFL insider revealed that Shaw will be interviewing with the Tennessee Titans who parted ways with Mike Vrabel.

Shaw wasn't on anyone's sidelines this past season as after stepping down as Stanford's head coach following the 2022 season, he went the media route. Shaw could be seen on NFL Network's NFL GameDay Live this season in an analyst role.

Prior to stepping down as the head coach at Stanford, Shaw had turned the Cardinal into a juggernaut out West. The program had become the rare academic and gridiron powerhouse and was somewhat of an anomaly in college football.  Under Shaw's guidance, who took over Jim Harbaugh when he left for the 49ers role,  Stanford won three Pac-12 titles. They also won two Rose Bowls in three appearances, had multiple Heisman runner-ups, and saw a Pac-12-leading 43 players drafted. Despite leaving on a low note with multiple losing seasons strung together, he did leave Stanford as the winningest coach in program history.

Shaw was viewed as having an NFL mindset when running Stanford's program, but as the sport was advancing he and the Cardinal fell behind. There was an unwillingness to modify schemes, and when the transfer portal came into play Stanford had little to no interest in utilizing it.

Shaw also interviewed for the Denver Broncos opening in 2023.
