TCU Baseball: Frogs complete series sweep of Baylor

After clinching the series victory with a strong showing on Friday and Saturday, the Frogs returned to Lupton Stadium looking to bring the brooms out against the Baylor Bears. While TCU only posted two runs the night prior, the offense exploded for a 10-run day on Sunday.
The Frogs got off to a flying start with a six-spot in the bottom of the first. Despite TCU batters getting retired back-to-back to start the inning, the Frogs rallied with a Brayden Taylor single and Anthony Silva getting plunked by a pitch. With runners on first and second, back-to-back knocks from Cole Fontenelle and Karson Bowen put the Frogs ahead 2-0 in the early going.
The Baylor Bears had the opportunity to retire the side, but a high-arching, bloop double from Logan Maxwell extended the inning, and, consequently, the Frogs lead to 4-0. Austin Davis got in on the action, knocking in Maxwell with a double. Davis would eventually come around to score after a single from Kurtis Byrne.
TCU continued to add to its lead in the 2nd inning when Taylor cranked a lead-off home run into the berm in right field. With his 17th home run this season, Taylor now sits at 42 career home runs for the Frogs.
While the Horned Frog offense unloaded early, Sam Stoutenborough managed the game on the bump. Coming off a fine outing against Cal State Fullerton, Stoutenborough put in a solid performance against the Bears on Sunday. The senior pitched 5 ⅓ innings where he gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. It was a great day for the right-hander, who quickly found his groove.
Stoutenborough picked up his second win of the season on Sunday, his first win since the Frogs defeated the University of San Diego in March.
The Frogs added to their lead in the 5th inning when Davis doubled down the left field line, advanced to third, and came around to score on a wild pitch. On the ensuing at-bat, Elijah Nuñez launched his third home run of the season to right-center field, making it a 9-1 ballgame. To cap off a tremendous day at the plate for the team, Silva knocked in a run with a ground ball to the shortstop to make it 10-1.
While the Frogs had a strong day offensively, the team's pitching held its own as well. TCU used six relievers on Sunday, combining for 3 ⅔ innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and three walks. Not the most efficient day for TCU relievers, but they got the job done.
With Sunday's victory, the Frogs improved to 30-21 on the season, 11-10 in the Big 12. Additionally, the Frogs have clinched a spot in the Big 12 Tournament. The Baylor Bears' difficult season continues as they sit at 16-35 overall and are last in the Big 12 with a record of 6-18.
Looking ahead, the Horned Frogs are set to host Texas State on Tuesday. While the Bobcats will look to bounce back after suffering a series sweep to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, the Frogs will try to extend their winning streak that sits at five games.
