Big 12 Men’s Basketball Saturday Rundown: Texas Gets Little Apple Win To Stay On Top

In this story:
We keep saying that the Big 12 is a gauntlet. With six ranked teams, nearly every Big 12 game will feature at least one ranked opponent, sometimes two. Any team can beat any other team on any given day.
Saturday’s games had two with both teams ranked. No. 13 Iowa State gets a big win at home over No. 8 Kansas to remain the only team in the league yet to lose a game on their home court. A Top Ten matchup occurred in Manhattan, Kansas with No. 10 Texas getting the road win over No. 7 Kansas State.
In other games, Oklahoma State got their fifth win in six games over No. 15 TCU, No. 11 Baylor got the win at home over Texas Tech, and West Virginia blew out Oklahoma.
Here are some other interesting stats about the conference:
- After Saturday’s games, Texas remains alone in first place at 8-2, and Iowa State is one game back at 7-3.
- There is now a four-way tie for third, with Baylor, Kansas, Kansas State, and TCU all at 6-4. Oklahoma State is just one more game back of that group at 5-5.
- The Big 12 is the only league in which all teams have reached double-digit wins and are at .500 or above.
- A nation-high 60% of the league is ranked in the Top 25 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.
- All teams in the league are in the Top 70 of NET rankings; the only league to accomplish this. Texas is ranked No. 8, followed by Kansas (10), Iowa State (12), Baylor (13), TCU (17), West Virginia (20), Kansas State (22), Oklahoma State (35), Oklahoma (61), and Texas Tech (70).
- The Big 12 conference NET ranking of 26.8 is the lowest of all leagues; the next lowest is at 57.36 (Big Ten).
- The 8.4-point average scoring margin in Big 12 conference games is the smallest of the A5 leagues and the second-smallest overall.
