TCU Women's Basketball Advances to Big 12 Quarterfinal with Thrilling win over Oklahoma State

Behind a career game from Una Jovanovic, the Horned Frogs advance to the third round of the Big 12 championship with a matchup against Oklahoma.

A game that came down to the final shot saw TCU escaping with a 68-66 win over Oklahoma State. The Horned Frogs got off to a nice start holding a five point lead after the first.

Late in the second quarter, the Frogs trailed by two but they recaptured the lead via a three from Una Jovanovic. That would spark a 10-0 run as Sedona Prince scored to give TCU a 33-25 advantage at the half.

However, that lead would quickly slip away as the Cowgirls picked up some momentum. A 13-0 run by Oklahoma State propelled them to a one point lead heading to the fourth.

With two minutes to go, Agnes Emma-Nnopu got a huge offensive rebound and cashed in on the follow to give TCU a 64-62 lead. That was quickly answered by Quincy Noble. After a jumper by Aaliyah Roberson, Noble responded again to tie the game back up. Noble finished with 26 points on 11-21 shooting.

Ultimately, it was free throws by Sedona Prince that gave TCU the lead and a defensive stop ended it. As mentioned earlier, Jovanovic had a monster game going for 22 points on 9-13 shooting and four triples. She also added five rebounds and five assists.

Emma-Nnopu had 17 points on 5-8 shooting from deep to go with eight rebounds and two blocks. Oklahoma State did a pretty good job containing Prince and Madison Conner who combined shot 7-25 and 20 points.

This was a great win for the Frogs but the road to the championship gets a lot tougher tomorrow as they take on the one seed Oklahoma Sooners. In their one matchup, the Sooners bested the Frogs 72-55 back in early February but a lot has changed. TCU was without Conner and Prince and still hung in that game until the end.

The Sooners are led by the Big 12 coach of the year, Jennie Baranczyk and Big 12 Co-Player of the year in Skyler Vann. Vann averages 15 points and seven rebounds per game. In order to get to the top, you have to run through the stiff competition but this team has displayed resiliency all season long.

The quarterfinal matchup will be played Saturday at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
