TCU Men’s Tennis Sweeps No. 15 Arizona State in First Round of ITA Indoor Championship

The two-time defending champions, TCU Horned Frogs, took care of business in the first round of the ITA Indoor National Championships with a 4-0 sweep over Arizona State on Friday morning.
The No. 2 TCU Men’s Tennis team advanced to 7-0 on the season with the win that took place inside the UTSA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in New York. The team will face Texas A&M, the No. 10 seed team, in a quarterfinal dual on Saturday. TCU has now won 32 indoor matches in a row.
The Frogs hope to three-peat, having won the ITA Indoor National Championship in 2022 and 2023.
"Good start to indoor nationals,” said TCU head coach David Roditi after the dual. “The guys beat Arizona State. We played well and got the doubles points. Sebastian Gorzny got off court 4 and gave the Frogs a lot of opportunities to close it out. I am happy to be a part of this, and hopefully, we can play at the main site at some point; I have heard it is nice. Looking forward to next match against Texas A&M.”
Doubles Play – TCU Won
TCU once again showed its dominance on the doubles courts. And did so by winning Courts Two and Three.
- Jake Fearnley and Jack Pinnington won their set 6-1 on Court Two. The win marked the pair's fifth victory in the dual season.
- The No. 20 duo of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted won 6-3 on Court Three to clinch the doubles point for TCU.
Singles Play – TCU won 3-0
- No. 39 Sebastian Gorzney quickly won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 on Court Four to put the Frogs up 2-0.
- Maxted, on Court Five, won his first set 6-3, but it took a second set tiebreaker to win his second set 7-6 (7-5).
- Tomas Jirousek made it a clean sweep for the Frogs with a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set win on Court Six.
Next up: The Horned Frogs will play Texas A&M in the ITA Indoor National Championships at 11 a.m. CST on Saturday, February 17.
