Josh Heupel May Land His Next Standout Quarterback Recruit Next Week

In this story:
The Tennessee Volunteers have been working through their 2027 recruiting class and have been doing a great job when it comes to landing some of their top prospects. Whether it be standout wide receiver KeSean Bowman or five-star running back David Gabriel-Georges, the Vols have been able to hold their own. This time they will have to do the same thing, but it will be in the class of 2028, as one of their biggest targets in the class is already set to announce his commitment.
The prospect who is set to announce his commitment is 2028 four-star quarterback Kaden Craft. Craft is a quarterback who ranks as highly as No. 102 among all players in the class of 2028, No. 8 at the quarterback position, and No. 4 in the state of North Carolina, according to Rivals' Industry rankings.
Kaden Craft Will Commit Next Week

Craft announced that he will be making his decision between multiple schools, and his decision is set to be made next week on Monday, August 17, 2026. This decision is set to be made on the Rivals YouTube channel, as his announcement is set to be made at 4 PM EDT. He is also a player who will commit between six schools, as the teams expected to have a hat on the table include the Oregon Ducks, Ole Miss Rebels, Michigan Wolverines, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and the Vols.

If Craft were to commit to the Vols, he would be the first prospect in the entire class to do so. This would be major for the Vols, as this could be the piece that falls and causes everything to follow behind, especially considering the quarterback position is key when it comes to being a leader on the team.
Andrew Ivins Points Out the Key Kaden Craft Traits

247Sports' Andrew Ivins evaluated Craft around a year ago, giving fans the opportunity to learn more about Craft. Here is what he pointed out.
"-Plus athlete with a prototypical frame.
-Has the guts to throw over the middle and challenge coverage.
-Extends plays with his legs and is effective on designed runs.
-Will rip spirals when he establishes a wide base.
-Must cut down on turnovers and improve field vision.
-Far from a complete product, but has ideal set of tools."
Kaden Craft's 2025 Production

According to MaxPreps, Craft finished last season leading his team to an 8-4 record, while also throwing for nearly 1,800 yards. He finished the season with 1,739 passing yards and threw for 17 touchdowns. He also only threw a total of four interceptions, which goes to show that he doesn't make many mistakes at the high school level. He isn't the most athletic player on the run, as he finished under 400 yards in rushing, with an average of around 3.2 yards per carry. However, near the goal line, he is electric, as he still finished with 13 rushing touchdowns.
Craft would be following behind multiple solid quarterback classes, including landing Derrick Baker, Faizon Brandon, and George MacIntyre, which continues the dominance that Josh Heupel has put together.
