In this story:

The Texas Longhorns have one of the most loaded rosters not just in the SEC but in the country, and the talent level on the roster is one of the obvious reasons behind the major expectations that follow the Longhorns into 2026.

The elite talent on the Longhorns' roster has been well-respected, with Texas being ranked a preseason top-5 team in the country according to the AP Poll as well as having the most preseason First-Team All-Americans selections.

And with another preseason list recently released, the Longhorns are once again well represented, and the expectations surrounding the roster are clear.

Several Longhorns Earn Major Preseason All-SEC Recognition

The SEC released its preseason coaches' All-SEC Teams on Wednesday, and the Longhorns were one of the top teams represented with 11 players selected, tied for the most with the Georgia Bulldogs. Additionally, Texas was tied with the LSU Tigers, with both teams having the most players on the first team, with five players each.

The five Longhorns on the All-SEC first team are not a surprise or shocking by any means, with linebacker Rasheem Biles, wide receiver Cam Coleman, left tackle Trevor Goosby, return specialist Ryan Niblett, and edge rusher Colin Simmons all earning the recognition.

Representing Texas on the second team was quarterback Arch Manning; the signal caller earning the First-Team honor was Ole Miss Rebels standout quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

And rounding out the 11 players who earned preseason honors was right guard Brandon Baker, long snapper Trey Dubuc, Niblett once again for All-Purpose, being one of five SEC players to earn recognition at multiple positions, safety Jelani McDonald, running back Hollywood Smothers, and wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who were all on the third team.

The Longhorns were seen up and down the preseason All-SEC teams, highlighting the immense amount of respect Texas has and the talent level on the roster, but also showcasing the lofty expectations head coach Steve Sarkisian will be facing throughout the 2026 season.

Texas doesn't have many holes or major questions left to be answered on its roster. There are a few, absolutely, as the Longhorns continue to settle on a starting offensive line combination, a starting safety, and figure out the roles of linebackers not named Biles.

However, the wave of pressure the Longhorns will face will not go away any time soon. And those projections won't just be for the Texas program to be mildly successful this season; the expectations, as seen by the number of Longhorns on preseason All-SEC teams, show the Longhorns should be competing not just for an SEC title but for a national championship.

Sarkisian has possibly the most talented roster he has had during his tenure at Texas, and while labeling any season championship-or-bust, 2026 is the best shot the Longhorns have had at hardware in a long time.
