UCLA Football: Dante Moore Reflects On Pivotal Game-Starting Interception In Saturday Loss
Through the first few weeks of the new college football season, your UCLA Bruins haven’t faced too much adversity. They coasted through teams and looked like a program that could make some noise in the Pac-12.
But after a sloppy game over the past weekend against the Utah Utes, UCLA is left feeling like they missed a big opportunity. The Bruins dropped the game by a score of 14-7, but they remained in a battle throughout against a top team in the country.
Utah was missing some of their starters, but the Utes are one of the deepest teams in the country. They stifled the UCLA offense all day and made true freshman quarterback Dante Moore uncomfortable from the jump.
This includes his interception that he threw on the first offensive play of the game for the Bruins. It was returned for a touchdown, and things never recovered from there. Moore opened up about the interception and gave his thoughts on it.
“When I looked that way there was a linebacker over there but he wasn’t even the guy who made the play,” Moore explained. “It was a guy who came from the complete opposite side and that’s just from them watching a lot of film and knowing what’s coming."
While it was a bad mistake from the young signal-caller, it wasn’t the reason the Bruins lost the game. They just couldn’t get anything going on offense, and the blame doesn’t fall entirely on the shoulders of Moore. He did take accountability for the mistake, which is great to see from a young leader.
“It was a big mistake and as a quarterback, you can’t make mistakes and you have to protect the football.”
Both Moore and the Bruins can learn from this game and get better moving forward. They went on the road, into a hostile environment, and almost came out with a win.
There are positives to take from this game, and as they head into the bye week, the Bruins will use this as motivation to not let it happen again.
