Lewis returns to Jacksonville

Sunday, 3:07 p.m.: It has been 15 years since Marcedes Lewis was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft.

The veteran tight end finally left the organization in 2018 to join the Green Bay Packers. The Packers have yet to play in Jaguars in an away game, but Sunday's matchup with the New Orleans Saints presented an interesting situation for Lewis.

The Packers-Saints game was moved to Jacksonville due to complications in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Ida. As a result, Lewis is playing his first game in TIAA Bank Field since leaving the Jaguars, now wearing Packers green and yellow.

Lewis cashed in with a 19-yard catch early in the third quarter.

New Orleans leads Green Bay 17-3 midway through the third.

Jack standing out in blowout

Sunday, 12:50 p.m.: The Jacksonville Jaguars don't look much better than they did in their 1-15 campaign last year, but that has nothing to do with Myles Jack.

The former Bruin is no stranger to being part of a losing organization since getting to Jacksonville in 2016, and the Houston Texans reinforced that by entering the fourth quarter beating his Jaguars 34-14.

With the Texans looking to run clock, Jack came downhill expecting a run and made the most out of one play. He wrapped up Phillip Lindsay for a 4-yard loss to push Houston back for third down.

The Texans still came away with a field goal on the drive to go up 37-14.

Jack now has 17.0 tackles for loss in 74 career NFL games.

Falcons open third quarter with Bruin sack

Sunday, 12:23 p.m.: The Eagles were looking to put together a big drive to open the second half and extend their 15-6 lead.

Jacob Tuioti-Mariner had other ideas.

The former UCLA football defensive end got around Philadelphia's right tackle on a pivotal 3rd-and-5 at midfield, but Hurts stepped up to evade the pressure. As Hurts cut to the left to extend the play further, Tuioti-Mariner continued his pass rush back toward the line of scrimmage and dragged Hurts down to force a punt.

Tuioti-Mariner had just one sack in 24 career games entering Sunday.

Moreau gets torched by rookie

Sunday, 10:30 a.m.: Fabian Moreau's Atlanta Falcons debut hasn't started off on the best foot.

On the Philadelphia Eagles' first drive of the game, quarterback Jalen Hurts went right at Moreau in the red zone. Moreau was in coverage against first round pick and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith.

Smith burned the veteran defensive back down the left side and caught his first career touchdown from 18 yards out.

Moreau signed with the Falcons in the offseason for one year, $1.1 million. He played the previous four seasons with the Washington Football Team after getting drafted in the third round out of UCLA in 2017.

Odighizuwa debuts, Cowboys lose

Sunday, 6 a.m.: 2021 third round pick Osa Odighizuwa made his NFL debut for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Cowboys trailed the defending Super Bowl champions for a good chunk of the game, with Odighizuwa starting at defensive tackle due to several injuries to his teammates up front. Odighizuwa tallied just one tackle, but his unit limited Tampa Bay to 52 rushing yards while forcing two fumbles and two interceptions.

Dallas was unable to create pressure on future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, however, not sacking him a single time as he racked up 379 yards and four touchdowns. Odighizuwa's Cowboys wound up losing the NFL's season opener 31-29 on a last-second field goal by Ryan Succop.

Odighizuwa was the only former Bruin on the field Thursday night. The next UCLA alumni will take the field Sunday morning, with Los Angeles Chargers running back Joshua Kelley, Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack and Minnesota Vikings linebackers Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr all set to make appearances in the 10 a.m. games.
