The Bruins are taking two freshman quarterbacks into the the 2023 season, and their in-state commit is the first to sign.

Miramonte (CA) product Luke Duncan officially announced his signing to UCLA football Wednesday morning, becoming the latest prospect to officially join the blue and gold in the early signing period. The Bay Area signal caller's recruitment was a back-and-forth effort with Cal, but it ended with the Bruins securing Duncan's commitment less than a week after offering him back in June.

"I'm excited to be a Bruin because I get to learn from the best and compete with the best," Duncan said in a statement released by the team. "I can't wait to get to Westwood."

Duncan is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports, Rivals, ESPN and On3. In the 247Sports Composite, Duncan is ranked as the No. 41 prospect in California, the No. 30 quarterback in the country and the No. 500 overall recruit in his class.

Among California quarterbacks, Duncan ranks No. 7.

Duncan broke out in 2022, throwing for 3,415 yards, 42 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 61.1% completion with a 160.5 passer rating, 101 rushing yards and a rushing TD.

Five-star quarterback Dante Moore took his official visit to Westwood on the same weekend as Duncan earlier in December, and he flipped his commitment from Oregon on Monday. Despite the former being a higher-rated prospect, the latter re-affirmed his commitment to UCLA and decided to sign with the Bruins regardless.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is on his way out after five years as UCLA's starter, while former Washington transfer Ethan Garbers, veteran backup Chase Griffin and class of 2022 four-star Justyn Martin remain as the other scholarship quarterbacks on UCLA's roster.

The quarterback room could see some additional shuffling following the Sun Bowl on Dec. 30, with multiple Bruins possibly seeking out their own chances to start. Garbers and Martin, who were both four-star quarterbacks in their own right, could possibly transfer with Duncan, Moore and Kent State transfer Collin Schlee coming in this offseason.

If there does end up being movement out of the quarterback room, the 6-foot-6 Duncan could end up being a third-string option at quarterback heading into next year, barring another transfer addition.
