The Bruins have made their next point guard target official.

UCLA men's basketball extended a scholarship offer to class of 2023 point guard Jackson Shelstad on Wednesday. Shelstad now has 17 Division I offers, including ones from Oregon, Houston, Kansas, Texas Tech, Florida and Arizona State.

Standing 6-feet tall and weighing 170 pounds, Shelstad is a true point guard. The only one of those on the Bruins' roster this season, Tyger Campbell, will likely have exhausted all of his collegiate eligibility by the time the 2023 recruiting class gets to Westwood.

Shelstad is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals, while 247Sports has yet to update its 2023 database to include his latest stock boost. ESPN has the rising West Linn (OR) junior ranked as the No. 2 player in Oregon and No. 25 point guard in the country. Rivals lists him as the No. 59 player in the nation.

UCLA and coach Mick Cronin now have eight outstanding offers to class of 2023 recruits, all of which are top-100 players in the country. One of those players, five-star small forward Mookie Cook, plays on the same AAU team as Shelstad, the Oakland Soldiers.

The Soldiers have produced NBA stars such as Chauncey Billups, Kendrick Perkins, Aaron Gordon, Matt Barnes and LeBron James.

In his latest high school season, Shelstad averaged 31 points and five assists per game. With the Soldiers at the Nike Peach Jam in July, Shelstad averaged 19.5 points and five assists per game on 52% shooting from the field.

The Bruins do not have a commit for 2023 at the moment. Their two 2022 commits – Amari Bailey and Dylan Andrews – are both guards as well.
