UCLA Basketball: Son Of Lakers Legend Commits To Bruins

Can you inherit "championship pedigree?"

It was a fun Thursday night for UCLA head coach Mick Cronin.

Cronin's Bruins beat Colorado at home by a score of 64-60. UCLA (14-11) has now won six in a row and eight of its last nine games. The Bruins are now positioned to finish with a top-four seed in the conference -- with a potential shot at even winning the conference.

While the victory was certainly satisfying for the fiery coach, it wasn't the only good news the program received Thursday evening.

According to his personal X account, 2024 prospect Christian Horry committed to UCLA. If that surname sounds familiar, it's because Christian's dad is longtime NBA player Robert Horry.

Horry is a 7-time NBA Champion. While he played for a plethora of teams, most remember him as a key cog in the Los Angeles Lakers three-peat from 2000-02. The moniker 'Big Shot Bob' was born, and Horry forever etched himself into Lakers lore.

Now, it's time for his son to shine. The younger Horry plays for Southern California power Harvard-Westlake. The 6'4" shooting guard is known for his ability to knock down shots beyond the arc.

He's also said to be a strong defender, a high-character teammate, and a terrific role player on a squad featuring McDonald's All-American Trent Perry and 2025 prospect Nik Khamenia.

Horry had a playoff game earlier this week. As shown in the image above, Cronin was front and center for the contest. He was seen talking to both father and son after the game had ended.

Coming from a storied program -- coupled with the pedigree he's inherited courtesy of his father -- it's probably a good bet that Horry will enter college with a mature approach. Being well-coached leading up to the collegiate level is also something that should mesh with Cronin and his style of play.

If Horry can shoot from the perimeter and play solid on-ball defense, he'll quickly endear himself to Cronin and the program.
