UCLA came in at No. 7 in the most recent AP Poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and is currently No. 5 in the NET Rankings, No. 3 in the KenPom, No. 4 in the T-Rank and No. 4 in the BPI. Oregon did not appear in either the AP Poll or Coaches Poll, and is currently No. 50 in the NET, No. 43 in the KenPom, No. 49 in the T-Rank and No. 41 in the BPI.
According to ESPN's Joe Lunardi, UCLA is projected to be the No. 2 seed in the South Region, while Oregon is in the Last Four Out category.
The Bruins were the heavy favorite to win the Pac-12 this season, earning the No. 1 spot in the preseason media poll with 26 first-place votes. The Ducks, on the other hand, came in at No. 3 with three first-place votes. According to the T-Rank WinMatrix, UCLA has an 88.3% chance of winning a share of the conference title, while Oregon has a 0.6% chance.
UCLA is led by coach Mick Cronin, who is in his fourth season with the program. Cronin boasts an 88-34 record since arriving in Westwood and a 453-205 record as a head coach overall, including his stints at Murray State and Cincinnati.
The Bruins are currently 20-4, including an 11-2 record in Pac-12 play. Following a winless weekend in Las Vegas in November, UCLA rattled off 14 wins in a row, including victories over Oregon, USC, Arizona State, Utah, then-No. 20 Maryland and then-No. 13 Kentucky. The streak came to an end with back-to-back road losses against Arizona and USC. The Bruins have since recovered, though, adding wins over Washington, Washington State and Oregon State.
UCLA is averaging 74.1 points per game while allowing 59.7 points per game, which rank No. 133 and No. 9 in the country, respectively. The Bruins have the No. 29 adjusted offense and No. 3 adjusted defense in the KenPom. Their 16.8 turnovers forced per game and their 10.7 turnovers per game both rank inside the top 20 in the country.
Guard/forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. leads UCLA with 16.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Guard Jaylen Clark is averaging 13.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game, while point guard Tyger Campbell is averaging 12.8 points and 4.9 assists per game. Freshmen Amari Bailey, Dylan Andrews and Adem Bona, meanwhile, have each emerged as secondary options alongside veteran sharpshooter David Singleton.
Oregon is led by coach Dana Altman, who is in his 13th season with the Ducks, holding a 315-135 record since arriving in Eugene. Altman has a 725-378 career record with 15 NCAA tournament appearances including his previous stints at Creighton, Kansas State, and Marshall.
An early upset at the hands of UC Irvine – coupled with three-straight losses to Houston, UConn and Michigan State – hindered Oregon early on. The Ducks have still yet to rattle off more than three wins in a row all season, but their only loss in their last five outings came at Arizona. An 18-point win over USC on Thursday moved them to 15-10 overall and 9-5 in conference play.
Oregon is averaging 71.0 points per game while allowing 66.9 points per game, which rank No. 188 and No. 99 in the country, respectively. The Ducks have the No. 31 adjusted offense and No. 64 adjusted defense in the KenPom. Oregon ranks outside the top-300 in 3-point percentage, but is one of the best shot-blocking teams in the nation.
Do-it-all guard Will Richardson is averaging 14.1 points, 5.5 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, while high-volume shooting guard Jermaine Couisnard is averaging 12.4 points per game since returning from injury. Big man N'Faly Dante is averaging 13.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.3 blocks and 1.2 steals per game alongside fellow 7-footer Kel'el Ware and his 7.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
UCLA is 90-39 against Oregon all-time, but just 1-4 since Cronin took over. The Bruins are 1-7 in Eugene dating back to 2015, and their only win in that stretch came in overtime.
