Baltimore Orioles Provide Injury Update on Former All-Star Starting Pitcher

Former All-Star John Means is heading out on a rehab assignment for the Baltimore Orioles is slated to make "several" starts at Triple-A Norfolk.

After undergoing elbow discomfort this offseason, Baltimore Orioles' starting pitcher John Means is headed to Triple-A for a rehab assignment.

Per Dan Connolly, who covers the O's, on social media:

According to Orioles, LHP John Means is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk soon. He is set to make several rehab starts for the Tides.

We knew back at the beginning of spring training that Means was going to start the year on the injured list and this is just a further extension of that. Unfortunately, he's not the only Orioles' hurler who is banged up, as Kyle Bradish will also begin the year on the IL with elbow problems.

Means is a six-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Orioles. Lifetime, he's 21-26 with a 3.74 ERA. He was the anchor of the O's staff when they were going through their painful, years-long rebuild. Means made the All-Star team in 2019, a year in which he won 12 games.

In the absence of Means and Bradish, the O's will rely on the newly-acquired Corbin Burnes. Dean Kremer and Grayson Rodriguez will also be a big part of the rotation as well.

Baltimore won an American League-best 101 games last season and captured the American League East crown. They were beaten in the ALDS by the eventual World Champion Texas Rangers.

The O's are opening up the season on Thursday against the Los Angeles Angels, who will enter the season without Shohei Ohtani. They are projected to finish fourth in the American League West.
