The Atlanta Braves have placed starting pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list with a strained left forearm.

While we certainly don't know the severity of the injury or the projected time missed, any time you hear "strained left forearm," you start to fear the worst.

It's the second trip to the injured list this year for Fried, who left his start on Opening Day with a hamstring injury. He joins Kyle Wright and Ian Anderson as pitchers on the injured list for Atlanta. The latter is out for the season with Tommy John surgery.

The Braves have dealt with a bevy of injuries this year. They've missed Michael Harris II and Orlando Arcia for long stretches, as well as catcher Travis D'Arnaud. They just recently got closer Raisel Iglesias back from a shoulder problem.

Despite the injures, the Braves are 24-11 and in first place in the National League East. They are seven games up on the New York Mets.

When he's pitched this year, Fried has been excellent. The 29-year-old is 2-1 through five starts with a 2.08 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He had only allowed one earned run in his first 20 innings but gave up five earned runs in six innings during his last start.

For his career, he's 56-26 with a 3.05 ERA. He helped the Braves win the World Series in 2021 when he won 14 games. He has double-digit win totals in each of the last three full seasons, and added a perfect 7-0 record during the shortened 2020 season.

The Braves host the Red Sox tonight at 7:20 p.m. ET.
