The Detroit Tigers continued a run of bad luck on Wednesday, placing breakout youngster Riley Greene on the injured list with a fracture in his left fibula.

Jason Beck, who covers the Tigers for MLB.com, had more on Twitter:

Tigers place Riley Greene on 10-day IL. He has a stress fracture of his left fibula. No timetable for his return at this point.

Greene is one of the centerpieces of the Tigers rebuild and has enjoyed a breakout season this year. The 22-year-old and former No. 5 overall pick in the draft is hitting .296 with five home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.

He made his major league debut in 2022 and is a lifetime .268 hitter with 10 home runs.

This is the second bad piece of injury news in as many days for the Tigers, who also lost ace Eduardo Rodriguez to injury on Tuesday.

These injuries come at devastating times for Detroit, who is 25-28, but is in the thick of the playoff chase in the American League Central.

The Tigers only trail the first-place Twins by 2.0 games entering action on Wednesday.

The Tigers currently are tied with the Texas Rangers, 0-0, in the bottom of the second inning.

In accordance with Greene's injury, Detroit recently acquired veteran outfielder Jake Marisnick. The 32-year-old has played 11 seasons in the big leagues, including winning a World Series in 2017 with the Houston Astros.

The Tigers are off on Thursday before traveling to Chicago for a weekend series with the White Sox.
