The New York Yankees are holding their breath on the health of outfielder Aaron Judge and his toe.

Judge injured his toe making a spectacular catch on Saturday in a win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He then sat out Sunday and told reporters he didn't know if the toe was broken. He mentioned he was trying to avoid an injured list stint but wasn't sure if he'd be able to.

Dr. David Chao, who served for a long time as the team doctor for the Chargers of the NFL -- and now runs a sports injury website -- says he doesn't expect Judge to need an injured list stint. You can see his full comments below:

"Expect him to suit up against the White Sox.... Do not anticipate this turning into a fracture or an IL type injury at this time.... hopefully this injury will be much ado about nothing.."

While that's not an official "all clear," it's certainly promising for Yankees fans to hear at this time.

Judge has already been on the IL once this year for a hip issue, and any additional absences would cause major issues for a Yankees team that is among the best in baseball -- when Judge plays.

After winning the MVP a season ago, he's hitting .291 this year with 19 homers and 40 RBI. He's added three stolen bases. For his career, he's a .284 hitter with 239 home runs.

Judge signed a massive nine-year, $360 million contract this offseason that will likely keep him in New York for the rest of his career. In addition to the MVP award, Judge has won Rookie of the Year, a home run derby title, three Silver Slugger awards, and is a four-time All-Star selection.

The Yankees are currently 36-25 and will host the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
