The Philadelphia Phillies, already experiencing issues this season, got some worse news on Thursday morning as starting corner infielder Alec Bohm was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring.

Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer put the information out on Twitter:

#Phillies are characterizing Alec Bohm’s left hamstring strain as “very mild,” according to Rob Thomson. But team wants to prevent it from lingering or getting worse. Drew Ellis will play 1B vs. lefties; Kody Clemens vs. righties.

Even if the issue is mild, any missed time is tough for the Phillies, who are currently 25-30 and in fourth place in the National League East.

After getting to the World Series in 2022, the expectations are high in Philadelphia, and missing key pieces is certainly a detriment.

The 26-year-old is hitting .265 this season with six homers and 37 RBI. He's also provided defensive versatility, starting 39 games at first base and 20 at third base this year.

The former first-round pick of the Phillies is a lifetime .275 hitter with 30 homers and 179 RBI.

He made his major league debut in 2020 and has been a regular starter ever since for Philadelphia. He hit a career-high 13 homers a season ago.

His absence is even tougher given that the team is out Rhys Hoskins for the season with a torn ACL, and the struggles that Kyle Schwarber has endured at the plate.

The Phillies will play the Mets on Thursday with the first pitch slated for 1:10 p.m. ET.
