New York Yankees' Ace Gets Positive Injury Report on Monday as He Battles Back From Elbow Injury

As he works to come back from an elbow injury that will keep him out until June, New York Yankees' star Gerrit Cole played catch for the first time without incident on Monday.

New York Yankees' star Gerrit Cole took another positive step in his return from an elbow injury that will keep him sidelined until June on Monday, playing catch without incident.

Per Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News:

Gerrit Cole played catch today without a problem.

His issue is with the current debate over pitching injuries. He just held court for about 20 minutes on the subject. More to come later, but he's not happy with the MLB's dismissive statement & all the finger pointing.

The latter point is certainly interesting, and it will be fascinating to hear what Cole thinks about the state of pitching in the game, but it's good to hear that he's feeling good after playing catch.

Sidelined since the end of spring training with elbow issues, Cole still has a long road ahead but if things go well, he is expected back by June.

The defending American League Cy Young winner, Cole went 15-4 last season with a 2.63 ERA. When he does take the mound in 2024, it will be his 12th Major League season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Houston Astros and Yankees. He's a six-time All-Star and a two-time ERA champion who has won double-digit games in nine of his 11 previous seasons (he also won seven in the COVID 2020 season).

He also has seven Top-10 finishes in the Cy Young voting.

The Yankees are currently 8-2 on the season and will open up a new series on Monday night with the Miami Marlins. First pitch is 6:05 p.m. ET.
