BREAKING: MLB Trade Deadline Date Reportedly Announced

In this story:
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Major League Baseball trade deadline will take place on August 1st this year.
As learned in an article from MLBTradeRumors, one of the features of the new CBA, which was ratified last year, is that the league can impose the trade deadline anytime July 28-August 3rd.
The league deadline used to be July 31st and this change is one of multiple changes to the deadline over the last few years, including getting rid of the August 31st waiver trade deadline.
Now, there is just one deadline and it will be August 1st this year.

The above article states that the league's primary goal is to keep the trade deadline on a weekday. It does not want a weekend trade deadline where trades are interfering with early game start times.
The deadline last year was 6 p.m. ET and while Bowden doesn't say that will be the case again this year, it makes sense, as it allows trades to be completed before gameplay starts for the night.
Last year saw several high-profile trades around the deadline, including Juan Soto being traded to the Padres in a whopper deal with the Nationals for a slew of prospects including CJ Abrams, Robert Hassell III and MacKenzie Gore.
The Mariners also acquired ace starting pitcher Luis Castillo from the Reds for a prospect package headlined by Noelvi Marte and Edwin Arroyo. The Twins also got starting pitcher Tyler Mahle from the Reds and the Blue Jays got Whit Merrifield from the Royals.
Other big moves included the Phillies getting reliever David Robertson, the Padres getting IF Brandon Drury, the Twins getting reliever Jorge Lopez, the Braves getting Robbie Grossman and the Astros getting both Christian Vazquez and Trey Mancini.
