Miami Marlins Interested in Acquiring Chicago White Sox Infielder at Trade Deadline

After the Chicago White Sox dealt away two pitchers on Wednesday, the Miami Marlins are trying to get them to trade away one of their most recognizable remaining players.

After the Chicago White Sox traded away Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez on Wednesday, the Miami Marlins are reportedly trying to get them to trade away long-tenured infielder Tim Anderson.

Jesse Rogers of ESPN wrote the following as part of this longer story on the looming August 1 trade deadline:

The Marlins are looking at White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, who has finally gotten hot. He still ranks last in OPS among all qualified hitters, but his approach at the plate after the All-Star break has been much better. Anderson is hitting balls to right field again; that's when he is at his best. Miami ranks 25th in OPS at shortstop -- still ahead of the White Sox -- but Anderson is a more proven commodity than anyone the Marlins employ. A change of scenery and a smaller market could do him some good, as well.

The 30-year-old Anderson is hitting .245 overall with no home runs and 18 RBI. He's stolen 10 bases while posting a .285 on-base percentage.

His career numbers are much better. The two-time All-Star is a lifetime .284 hitter with 97 homers. He won a batting title back in 2019 when he hit .335.

Anderson has a team contract option at the end of the season, so he could become a free agent, but a team likely would trade for him with the desire to pick up his deal and utilize him in 2024 as well.

The White Sox are 41-62 and open a series with the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday night.
